Statement on NYS Budget

Article by: Paula Sandy

Statement from SUNY Erie Community College President Dr. Dan Hocoy on the New York State Budget

“The 2019-20 New York State budget has generated a sense of relief to community colleges across the State with the establishment of a funding floor. Equipped with the knowledge that there is a minimum base State aid established will help SUNY Erie to better plan to meet the needs of our students and the business community. We are grateful to Governor Cuomo and our State elected officials for recognizing the value of community colleges in creating a stronger workforce, and the need to create a funding model that keeps SUNY Erie and other colleges like us affordable. Additionally, I applaud our elected officials for passing the Jose Peralta DREAM Act as it provides welcome support to local immigrant populations who aspire to earn a college degree. We look forward to continuing to develop programs to assist the residents of Erie County in achieving family sustaining employment through a college degree.”
